Choosing a solicitor is the first obstacle to overcome, see – ’SOLIICITORS’
When you are dealing with a contentious partner, you know you are going to be up against anything but the truth.
So you ask around and may discover most will not recommend anyone even if they came off best. So what do you do? Stick a pin in Yellow pages?
Have you discovered a well kept secret - the Law Society has a voluntary accreditation scheme. You see, when a solicitor qualifies, they can start practising in any or as many fields as they so wish. It is only after at least five years’practice in Family Law that they can apply for the Law Society’s Accreditation. They have to satisfy the Society that they have a good comprehension of their chosen field (in divorce, it is Family Law). Then after another five years on the Accreditation list they can apply for Advanced Accreditation.
Most people outside the profession are not aware of this system. It would therefore make sense in the absence of knowledge of the profession or other reliable information, to make a choice from one on the list.
Whilst we are the first to say – a qualification is no guarantee of ability - we also accepts it is better than no other reliable information. Plus there are many competent solicitors out there who have chosen not to be accredited; the problem is finding them.
It is our intention to make this a ‘one stop shop’ for divorce and associated family law. Obviously that will take time and will be an on going task.
Before closing, it must be made clear that this site does NOT give any legal advice. Its sole intention is to try and present in every day language, how the system works and to make you aware of the various professions and services that you may need to call on to aid you in your preparation and journey through the procedure.
